Statement of faith

What we believe

The Christian Cigar Association is not a church. But we are unashamedly Christian — and this is the faith we hold in common.

We are men from many churches and many traditions, gathered around a shared, historic faith. Everything below is what Christians have confessed together for two thousand years, not something we invented. On secondary matters we hold our convictions humbly and enjoy the conversation; on these things we stand together.

01 · The historic creeds

The Historic Creeds

We gladly affirm the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed as faithful summaries of Scripture, and we stand with the believers of every age who have confessed them.

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made. Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

02 · Twelve affirmations

Twelve Affirmations

01

THE SCRIPTURES

The Bible is the Word of God, fully true and trustworthy, and our final authority in all matters of faith and life.

02

THE TRINITY

There is one God, eternal and infinite, existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — one God, not three.

03

GOD THE FATHER

God made all things by His word, He rules all things wisely, and He is a good Father to all who come to Him through Christ.

04

JESUS CHRIST

Jesus is fully God and fully man, born of the virgin Mary, without sin, and He is the only mediator between God and man.

05

THE CROSS

On the cross Jesus bore the penalty for our sin in our place, and He rose bodily from the grave on the third day. His death and resurrection are our only hope.

06

THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Spirit convicts, gives new life, indwells every believer, and forms in us the character of Christ.

07

SALVATION BY GRACE

We are saved by God's grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone — not by anything we bring. Every sinner who repents and trusts Him is forever forgiven.

08

THE CHURCH

The Church is the family of God across every nation and generation. We are not a church ourselves — we point men back to their own local churches and pastors.

09

THE ORDINANCES

Baptism and the Lord's Supper are Christ's gifts to His Church, to be observed faithfully until He returns. We do not administer them ourselves.

10

A LIFE THAT CHANGED

Faith that saves is faith that shows. We are called to holy living, kindness, honesty, and love — inside the home first, then out in the world.

11

SERVING OUR NEIGHBOR

We feed, clothe, and care for those in need, believing mercy shown to the least is mercy shown to Christ.

12

THE RETURN OF CHRIST

Jesus will come again visibly and bodily, and every one of His people will rise to life with Him forever. That is the hope we smoke to.

03 · Where we hold it loosely

Where We Hold It Loosely

We are Christians first. Our members come from Baptist, Presbyterian, Anglican, Methodist, Reformed, and nondenominational churches, and we have no interest in making a man's cigar choice a test of his theology. The twelve affirmations above are the ground we stand on together. The rest is good conversation over good smoke.

Proverbs 27:17

Iron sharpens iron.

Bring your convictions, your questions, and a willingness to be sharpened. Here you will be challenged by your brothers — and you will challenge them. That is how men grow.

Smoke to the glory of God.
